Geographic Information System (Addressing)
The Will County 9-1-1 GIS Department maintains all of the Geofile data for the CAD System, creates maps for our PSAP, police and fire agencies.
Barbara Steffen was born and raised in Will County and came to the office with more than 15 years of Will County mapping experience.
She leads a team of two which includes our County Addressing Coordinator, Mary Jo Szymanski, and our GIS Specialist, Krista Carbonara. The department works with wireless entities, MSAG, US Postal Service and the 9-1-1 State Coordinator. Together the three of them supply our PSAPs and Agencies with the GIS data needed for our CAD System.
About Mary Jo
Mary Jo Szymanski came to the 9-1-1 Office in October 2006. Initially hired as a GIS technician, since April of 2011,she has been the County Addressing Coordinator when she filled the vacant position brought over from the Will County Land Use Department to 9-1-1.
She is responsible for addressing the unincorporated areas of Will County and works closely with Municipal address coordinators and the Post Office to maintain an accurate Master Address Table for 9-1-1 and County departments.
Mary Jo Szymanski
Krista was hired in March of 2013 as a GIS Specialist.
Her responsibilities include but are not limited to responding to help desk requests requiring maps or inputting “Common Places” into the GeoFile for the Public Safety Answering Point’s (PSAP’s) and other agencies within Will County. Other duties include frequent field checks for “Common Places” in the GeoFile along with map updates and other GIS related issues the PSAP’s may have.
